Welcome To Villa Linakis
New for Autumn & Winter 2009/2010
Without doubt Corfu is a great place to enjoy a summer holiday. Days of endless sunshine, lazy mealtimes and a relaxed way of life make it a firm favourite. But what happens on the island when the summer is over and most of the visitors have left?
For many local people it is a return to the more traditional Corfiot pursuits; tending gardens, harvesting the olives and making ‘krasi’ (village wine). In the mornings the air in the streets of the traditional inland villages will be filled with mouth-watering cooking smells. Garlic, herbs, meat cooking over open olivewood fires, meals being prepared in readiness for the workers on their return from the olive groves.
During the autumn and again in spring the countryside enjoys a blanket of colour, with wild cylamen, snowdrops and other pretty flowers growing abundant amongst the tree lined terraces. Apart from a month or so in the depths of winter the temperatures remain comfortable, and the island experiences a mixture of Mediterranean blue skies and rainfall that ensures the verdant beauty of the place throughout the year.
This is a time that few people who are not resident on the island are able to experience, but for those lucky enough to do so it is a visit never forgotten!
We are delighted to offer you the opportunity to enjoy a taste of the traditional Corfu by opening the doors of Villa Linakis to guests not only during the summer months but out of season as well. We have brought together local people to guide you through the culinary delights and traditional way of life that have been part of the Corfiot way of life for centuries.
Instead of lazing by the pool, discover how to cook authentic Greek dishes. Help harvest olives and discover the process between tree and bottle that turns those little black fruits become delicious oil. Sample the organic wines found on dining tables in every home each evening, that only a few short months before was grapes hanging heavy on the vines throughout the island.
Experience a little of everything that Corfu has to offer. For those who enjoy the great outdoors we are able to arrange walking and private guided island tours. We can also point you in the right direction for bird watching. If you would prefer not to venture too far from the villa art classes and writing workshops are also available.
For ultimate convenience our chef can provide delicious Corfiot meals, packaged and ready to reheat and eat!
